Chapter 1: The Room They Took From Me

My stepmother forced me to give up my master bedroom to my younger sister or get kicked out.
Three days later, my entire family showed up at my new house trembling over what they found inside it.
It started at family dinner.
My stepmother placed down her fork and looked directly at me.
'Give your bedroom to your sister by tomorrow, or leave forever.'
The dining room went utterly silent.
My sister looked down at her plate, and Dad refused to look up.
'Are you serious?' I asked.
'Completely,' she replied with a cold smile.
That room contained all my memories and the only pictures left of my late mother.
I looked at Dad, desperately hoping for him to defend me.
He stayed silent.
His silence hurt more than her cruel ultimatum.
I stood up without making a scene.
'I understand.'
I went upstairs, packed two suitcases, and left by midnight.
Dad never tried to stop me.
What they didn't know was that I had put aside money for years.
Two days later, I bought a quiet little home overlooking the hills.
For the first time, nobody could push me around.
On the third morning, I was sipping coffee on my balcony when a car stopped at my gate.
Dad stepped out first, followed by my stepmother and sister.
None of them looked pleased.
My phone rang, and I answered.
'What do you want?'
'We need to talk,' Dad said, his voice trembling.
My stepmother grabbed the phone from his hands.
'You need to come back right now.'
'You told me to leave forever,' I reminded her.
'Something happened after you left,' she whispered.
My stomach dropped.
'What happened?'
Dad spoke up in the background, his voice cracking.
'Tell her what we found inside her old room.'
They hadn't come to apologize.
They found something hidden in my room that terrified them.
