Chapter 2: I Have the Emails

Part 2 ⬇️

My wife's face went white.

She set her wine glass down so hard it nearly cracked.

"I don't know what you're talking about," she said.

"Zoria signed that form herself."

The admissions officer didn't blink.

"Ma'am, our office flagged this two weeks ago.

The signature doesn't match any document Zoria submitted during her application.

We've already sent it for verification."

Zoria pressed both hands over her mouth.

"I never even saw that form," she whispered.

"I never saw it."

My wife turned to me, her voice dropping low.

"Don't you dare make a scene in front of our guests."

I couldn't speak.

I just stared at her.

Then Kendra stood up from her chair.

Her face was red.

Her hands were shaking.

"Mom," she said quietly.

"Tell them the truth."

My wife's eyes snapped toward her daughter like a warning shot.

"Kendra.

Sit.

Down."

But Kendra didn't sit down.

She reached into the pocket of her dress and pulled out her phone.

"I have the emails," she said, her voice barely holding together.

"I have everything."

The backyard was so silent I could hear the ice melting in the glasses.
