Chapter 1: The Door I Should Never Have Opened

On my wedding day, I opened the door to Room 237 and found my husband with my own bridesmaid.
Maverick panicked, "Amy…
it's not what you think!" I didn't cry.
I simply pulled out my phone, called his mother, and said, "Mrs.
Bennett, come to Room 237." When he begged me to stop, I smiled and added one sentence that made the entire room go silent: "And please…
bring the whole family."
"Amy…
I can explain!"
Maverick shot upright the moment he saw me standing in the doorway.
I was still wearing my wedding gown.
My bouquet was still in my hand.
Penelope, my bridesmaid, pulled the sheet around herself and stammered:
"No…
it's not what you think."
I looked around the room.
Maverick's suit jacket was on the floor.
Penelope's purple bridesmaid dress was beside the bed.
Every promise.
Every plan.
Everything I had believed about that day vanished in seconds.
But what frightened Maverick most was that I didn't cry.
I simply took out my phone.
"Amy, please.
Can we talk about this privately?"
I looked at him.
"Privately?"
Then I made the call.
Someone answered almost immediately.
"Mrs.
Bennett?"
Maverick froze.
"Mom?"
My voice stayed calm.
"Could you come to Room 237 at the Millbrook Inn?"
Maverick stepped toward me.
"Amy…
don't do this."
I moved back.
"Too late."
Then I added:
"And please…
bring the whole family."
The color drained from his face.
But he still had no idea that his betrayal wasn't the real reason I wanted them there.
Because hidden inside my wedding dress was a folder of documents he had spent months trying to keep from me.
And when the Bennett family finally entered Room 237, the affair would not be the biggest secret exposed that day…
