Chapter 2: The Name That Was Already Gone

Eleanor's eyes dropped to the signature line.

The color drained from her face.

Her own name had been crossed out.

Cleanly.

Officially.

Notarized.

"You removed me?" she whispered.

"When?"

"Yesterday morning," Marcus said.

"While you were having brunch with Steven."

Eleanor's hand flew to her mouth.

She grabbed the next document, then the next.

Every single page told the same story.

Her name — gone.

Maya's name — added.

One by one.

Property after property.

"You can't do this!" she exploded.

"I'm your wife!

I have rights!"

Marcus straightened slowly and buttoned the top of his pajama shirt.

"You have the rights I gave you.

And you just threatened my daughter."

Eleanor spun toward Maya in the doorway, her eyes blazing.

"You knew about this, didn't you?

You little — "

"Don't." Marcus's voice cut through the room like a blade.

"Don't say another word to her."

Maya hadn't moved.

She stood very still, one hand pressed against the door frame, her face pale.

But her eyes weren't frightened anymore.

They were watching her father with something that looked like quiet relief.

Eleanor turned back to Marcus, chest heaving, voice dropping to a trembling whisper.

"You're doing this over a threat?

You'd throw away our marriage for her?"

Marcus picked up his fork, sat back down, and looked at his plate.

"I didn't throw anything away, Eleanor." He paused.

"I just protected what was always mine." 💔🔥

Then his phone buzzed on the counter.

He glanced at the screen — and his expression shifted into something no one in that room had seen before.

😨

---

What was on that phone changed everything.
