Chapter 1: The Rose Beneath Her Shoe

"The Bride Sl*pped Her Groom’s Elderly Mother Before She Could Even Hand Her The Roses—Seconds Later, The Groom Walked Straight Toward The Microphone.

Margaret had selected the red roses herself.

They came from the small garden where she had raised Daniel.

She approached Lauren carefully during the reception.

“I only wanted to—”

SL*P.

The whole ballroom froze.

One rose slipped from Margaret’s hands and landed beneath Lauren’s jeweled shoe.

“You useless old woman!

You almost stained my dress!”

Margaret touched her stinging cheek.

“I’m sorry.”

That was when Daniel arrived.

He noticed the mark on his mother’s face.

The crushed rose.

And his bride still defending what she had done.

“She came too close to my gown,” Lauren insisted.

Daniel stared at her.

“So you h*t my mother?”

Lauren reached for his arm.

“We can talk about this privately.”

Daniel pulled away.

“No.

You made it public.”

Then he headed toward the microphone.

Two hundred guests watched him remove his wedding ring.

Lauren stopped breathing.

“This wedding,” Daniel announced, “is canceled immediately.”

And looking at Lauren’s face, she had never imagined one sl*p could cost her everything.
