Chapter 2: That's My Daddy

Maya stood frozen, the word echoing in her skull.

*Daughter.*

The little girl slowly rose to her feet.

She didn't cry.

She didn't run.

She simply looked at Maya with quiet, steady eyes — and that stillness was somehow more terrifying than any outburst.

Marcus kept his head bowed.

"Your father has been trying to reach you for the past hour, Miss.

He's on his way."

Maya's throat tightened.

"Her father?" she whispered.

"Who is her father?"

Marcus finally looked up.

His expression didn't change, but something behind his eyes did.

"Mr.

Harlan Voss," he said.

"The founder of Luxe & Co."

The room went ice cold.

Maya's legs nearly gave out.

Harlan Voss.

The man whose signature was on her employment contract.

The man who owned every piece of furniture, every display case, every inch of marble floor beneath her feet — including the floor this child had just been pushed onto.

The woman in diamonds took one slow step away from Maya, as if distance might protect her.

Then a phone rang.

Marcus reached into his jacket, glanced at the screen, and held it out toward Maya without a word.

The name on the screen read: *H.

VOSS — CHAIRMAN*

Maya's hand wouldn't move.

The little girl looked up at her and said, very quietly, "That's my daddy."
