Chapter 1: The Floor That Changed Everything

The entire wedding laughed when Veronica yanked the chair away.

Then Alessia hit the marble floor and whispered five words that made the Mafia boss go completely still.

"I can't feel my foot."

The music stopped.

Dr.

Cole rushed across the ballroom and dropped to his knees beside her.

"Alessia, don't move."

Veronica rolled her eyes.

"Oh, please.

She's always dramatic."

She leaned down and grabbed Alessia's arm.

"Get up."

"DON'T TOUCH HER."

Valerio Rinaldi's voice cut through the room.

Every guest froze.

Valerio had been speaking with two men across the ballroom when Alessia fell.

Now he was walking toward them slowly, his expression so cold that even Veronica let go.

"She pulled the chair away," someone whispered.

Veronica crossed her arms.

"It was a joke."

Dr.

Cole looked up.

"This isn't a joke."

Valerio's eyes narrowed.

"What's wrong with her?"

The doctor checked Alessia's leg again.

Then his face changed.

"This fall didn't cause everything I'm seeing."

Silence.

Alessia stared at him.

"What does that mean?"

Dr.

Cole hesitated.

"Your leg was already being affected before tonight."

Valerio turned toward him.

"By what?"

The doctor lowered his voice.

"I need to see every medication she's been taking."

For the first time, Veronica stopped smiling.

And Valerio noticed.

He looked from Veronica…

to Alessia…

then toward the mansion's private medical wing.

"Lock the doors."

Two armed men moved immediately.

Veronica's face went pale.

"Valerio, what are you doing?"

He stared straight at her.

"Finding out why my wife has been getting weaker for months."

But what they found inside Alessia's medicine cabinet was worse than anyone expected.

There were two bottles.

Same name.

Same prescription.

Different pills.

And one of them had never been prescribed to Alessia at all.

---

What was in that second bottle — and how long has Alessia been taking it?
