Chapter 2: The Message From a Stranger

Part 2 ⬇️

The argument didn't end there.

The father pulled out his phone and showed her the bank transfer.

Six hundred dollars.

Sent three weeks ago with one note: *Marcus.

School supplies.*

"You saw that note," he said.

"You knew exactly what that money was for."

The mother didn't flinch.

"And Marcus has everything he needs.

So does every child in that house."

"That's not the point!"

"Then what IS the point?" she shot back.

"That your son eats while my kids watch?

That he walks in with new shoes and a full backpack while they go without?"

The father went quiet for a second.

Then he said something that stopped her cold.

"I've been sending you money every month for three years.

I want to see the receipts.

All of them."

Her expression shifted.

Just slightly.

But he caught it.

"What receipts?" she said carefully.

"Every transfer I've ever sent for Marcus." He stepped closer.

"Because I'm starting to think this isn't the first time."

She opened her mouth.

Then closed it.

And that's when his phone buzzed.

A message from a number he didn't recognize.

*She's been doing this since the beginning.

I have proof.

Call me.*
