Chapter 1: The Woman Who Thought She Was Untouchable

"Hey!
Watch where you're going, garbage girl!" I snapped, the words sharp and venomous as I glanced down at my feet.
A stray, oily drop of dirty mop water had landed perfectly on the toe of my Oxfords—immaculately polished, custom Italian leather shoes that cost more than this girl probably made in a month.
I was standing in the sprawling, sunlit marble lobby of Vance Enterprises, wearing my absolute best tailored charcoal suit.
Today was supposed to be the crowning achievement of my life.
After years of ruthless grinding, I was finally up for the Senior Vice President promotion.
Mr.
Vance himself—the legendary, cold-blooded billionaire CEO—was personally reviewing my track record this morning.
In a world where perception is everything, I couldn't look less than flawless.
The girl holding the mop handle slowly looked up.
She was drowning in oversized, faded denim overalls, her hair hastily tied back in a messy, chaotic bun with a few stray strands framing her face.
To top it off, she had a literal streak of gray dust smudged across her left cheek.
She looked barely twenty-four, completely out of place amid the high-tech glass architecture and sharply dressed executives of this skyscraper.
"I'm sorry," she said calmly.
Her voice wasn't shaky or panicked; it was surprisingly steady, almost serene.
"But the 'Wet Floor' sign is right there.
You rushed past it."
"Are you actually talking back to me?" I sneered, deliberately stepping deeper into her personal space to intimidate her, letting my height tower over her.
"Do you have any idea who I am?
I am the top asset manager in this entire firm.
I generate millions for this company.
You are a nameless, replaceable janitor who could be removed from this building in five minutes.
Learn your place, or I'll personally ensure you're scrubbing toilets on the street by noon."
She didn't flinch.
She didn't blink.
In fact, right before my eyes, a faint, dangerous smirk touched the corners of her lips.
"Is that a promise?"
"Keep pushing it, sweetheart," I barked, a flash of pure rage hitting me.
Desperate to assert dominance, I deliberately kicked the side of her heavy plastic mop bucket.
The impact sent a wave of murky, gray water splashing over the rim, soaking right through the canvas of her worn-out sneakers.
"Go complain to HR if you don't like it.
See who they believe."
I turned sharply on my heel and strutted toward the private executive elevators, feeling a dark surge of arrogant satisfaction rising through me.
Power felt good.
Absolute authority felt even better.
---
Ten minutes later, the adrenaline had settled into pure anticipation.
I was seated at the center of the massive, polished mahogany table in the 50th-floor boardroom.
My heart was pounding a frantic rhythm against my ribs, but it was from excitement, not fear.
The other board members were offering me tight, polite smiles, nodding in acknowledgment of my track record.
Yet, the heavy leather chair at the head of the table remained conspicuously empty.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors swung open.
Mr.
Vance walked in, radiating his usual stern, suffocating power.
But he wasn't alone.
Walking right beside him, matching him stride for stride, was a woman.
My heart didn't just drop — it plummeted like a stone into the dark abyss of my stomach.
The air left my lungs in a sharp, silent gasp.
The entire room suddenly felt entirely devoid of oxygen, the walls closing in on me.
It was her.
The janitor girl.
Only, the faded overalls and dust smudges were gone.
Instead, she wore a stunning, razor-sharp navy-blue power suit that fit her flawlessly.
Her hair was down, cascading past her shoulders in perfect, professional waves, and her face was pristine.
But those same piercing, entirely unflappable eyes locked instantly onto mine with terrifying recognition.
---
She remembered every word.
And now she was standing beside the most powerful man in the building.
What do you think happens next?
