Chapter 2: The Paper She Left Face Down

Mr.

Vance pulled out the chair at the head of the table and gestured toward it.

She sat down.

Not beside him.

Not behind him.

At the head of the table.

My mouth went dry.

"I'd like to introduce Ms.

Reeves," Mr.

Vance said, his voice carrying the full weight of the room.

"She'll be joining us today as the final evaluator for the SVP appointment.

Her assessment carries equal weight to mine."

Every head turned toward her.

Every smile in the room shifted — recalculating, repositioning.

Mine stayed frozen.

Ms.

Reeves opened a slim folder and set it flat on the table without looking at it.

She didn't need to.

Her eyes were already on me.

"Before we begin," she said, her voice exactly as calm as it had been in the lobby, "I'd like to ask one question."

The room went completely still.

"How does a person treat someone they believe has no power over them?"

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Then she slid a single sheet of paper across the table — face down — and left her hand resting on top of it.

"I think that tells you everything about their leadership."

I felt the bl00d drain from my face.

My hands, hidden under the table, had started to shake.

Whatever was on that paper — I already knew it was the end of everything I had built.

---

What was on that paper?

What did Ms.

Reeves know — and how long had she known it?

The full story will leave you speechless.
