Chapter 1: The Plate Beside the Dog’s Bowl

HE MADE HIS WIFE'S BIOLOGICAL SON EAT DOG FOOD IN THE BEDROOM—WAS THE FATHER RIGHT TO KICK THEM OUT?

The solid oak door creaked open, and Marcus stepped into the shadowed, cold hallway of the upstairs guest wing, his breathing ragged with a sudden, suffocating dread.

He pushed open the bedroom door to find his sixteen-year-old son, Michael, seated completely alone on the edge of a bare mattress, shoulders hunched over a paper plate containing scraps of cold vegetables.

The air in the room seemed heavy, stripped of any warmth or dignity, smelling faintly of the nearby utility closet.

Marcus felt the bl0od rush to his ears, hot and vjolent, as his eyes locked onto the boy's downcast eyes.

"Why you eating in here?" Marcus demanded, his voice trembling with a mixture of disbelief and escalating fury.

😢

Michael slowly lifted his head, his lower lip quivering as silent tears carved new tracks down his dust-stained cheeks, reflecting the dim light of the single ceiling bulb.

"Sarah told me I can't eat with them," the boy whispered, his voice cracking under the weight of utter humiliation.

💔

Without uttering another word, Marcus spun on his heel, the dark cardigan billowing behind him as his heavy footsteps pounded down the stairs, each stride fueled by a blind, scorching rage.

He burst into the brightly lit, opulent dining room where crystal chandeliers cast a glittering, mocking light over a feast of roasted meats and steaming dishes.

Sarah sat casually at the head of the table, her braided hair neatly cascading over her shoulders as she calmly crossed her arms, while her own young son, Jordan, picked lazily at a plate heaped with food.

"Why is my son eating alone?" Marcus roared, slamming his palm against the mahogany doorframe with a force that rattled the surrounding picture frames.

😤

Sarah didn't even flinch; instead, she leaned back in her chair with an infuriating, icy composure, her eyes narrowing with calculated disdain.

"Jordan is my biological son.

Michael can eat somewhere else," she replied smoothly, as if reciting a mundane household rule.

That single, callous sentence shattered the last remnants of Marcus's self-control.

The veins in his temples throbbed vjolently as he lunged forward, planting both hands on the table and leaning so close his face was inches from hers, his voice dropping into a terrifying, guttural snarl.

"You will never treat my child like he's beneath yours!

Do you hear me?"

Sarah snapped out of her chair, her own voice rising to a shrill, defiant shriek as she slammed her hands onto the tabletop.

"This is my house too!

I have a right to decide how things run under this roof!"

"Not if this is how you use it!" Marcus barked back, his eyes flashing with a dangerous, unforgiving intensity that made even Sarah recoil a fraction of an inch.

"From now on, you sit at this table—and you need to pack your things because your time here is done."

He turned away from her, his chest heaving as he walked back toward the hallway, finding Michael standing uncertainly by the doorway.

Marcus gazed down at his son, his expression softening slightly with fierce, protective devotion, though the storm in his eyes remained entirely unquelled.

Before Marcus could utter another command, Michael took a half-step forward, his gaze darting nervously down the hall before locking back onto his father's eyes.

A dark, trembling shiver ran through the boy's frame as he swallowed hard, fighting against a fresh wave of tears.

"Dad..." Michael whispered, his voice hitching anxiously as he reached out to grab his father's sleeve.

"Before she leaves...

there's something else she did." 😨
