Chapter 2: The Letter She Feared

The powerful man stopped beside me.

My hands trembled, but I refused to step back.

The wealthy woman smiled.

“Thank goodness you’re here.

Have this server removed.”

He didn’t even look at me.

“Take your hand off my sister’s wheelchair,” he said.

Her smile vanished.

Whispers swept across the ballroom.

“Your sister?” I asked.

The woman in the wheelchair nodded, tears filling her eyes.

“My brother invited me.

She told me I didn’t belong here.”

“That’s a lie!” the wealthy woman snapped.

“She came to embarrass me.”

The billionaire turned toward her.

“Why would my sister want to embarrass you?”

She opened her mouth, but no words came out.

Then the woman in the wheelchair reached beneath her blanket and pulled out a sealed envelope.

The wealthy woman’s face went pale.

“Give me that,” she demanded, grabbing for it.

I stepped between them again.

“Don’t touch her.”

The billionaire stared at the handwriting on the envelope.

“That’s my mother’s writing.”

His sister clutched it tightly.

“She gave this to me before she passed,” she whispered.

“And this woman has spent three years making sure you never saw it.”
