Chapter 1: The Man in the Worn Jacket
My mother-in-law called my father trash and humiliated him at my wedding.
Seconds later, the entire ballroom went completely silent when my wedding planner rushed in and dropped to her knees.
Hundreds of guests looked toward my father, Arthur.
He stood by the entrance wearing his worn jacket and holding a tiny gift box.
My bride’s mother pointed at him with open disgust.
“That is trash,” Diane shouted across the ballroom.
My bride, Vanessa, merely laughed beside me at the altar.

I moved away from the altar and stepped through the shocked crowd.
I carefully took the small box from my father’s hands.
“Dad...
let’s go,” I whispered.
Vanessa hurried after me and grabbed my arm.
“You’d cancel our wedding over him?” she sneered.
Before I could answer, the wedding planner rushed into the room, breathless and pale.
She ignored everyone and hurried straight toward my father.
“Mr.
Bennett!” she gasped.
“The board is waiting for your approval to release the funds.”
Diane’s smile completely disappeared.
Vanessa slowly released my arm as 500 guests stared in utter shock.
