“They told me he d!ed.”
Mallerie murmured it—
while gazing at the baby in Gideon Vale’s arms.
Moments earlier, Owen had abruptly reached urgently toward her.
“He never does this.”
Gideon hesitantly let the maid hold him.
The sobbing stopped instantly.
Owen buried his face against her chest—
like he already knew her.
Then his trouser leg rode up.
Mallerie noticed a small crescent-shaped birthmark above his ankle.
Her face went PALE.
“My baby had that exact mark.”
Gideon glanced down.
Then back at her.
“Your baby?”
Mallerie held back tears.
“They told me he d!ed.”
