Chapter 1: The Girl Who Shouldn't Know

"You really think no one can open this?"

The three-year-old's voice cut through Alexander Carter's penthouse office.

Dozens of powerful men turned toward the enormous titanium vault.

Then they laughed.

Sofie stood in worn sneakers, shorts, and a frayed T-shirt, staring at the most secure vault in Alexander's empire.

Her mother, Elena, gripped a mop near the wall.

She was the cleaning lady.

She had brought Sofie to work because she couldn't afford childcare.

Now her daughter had become entertainment for men who spent more before breakfast than Elena earned in years.

Alexander smiled coldly.

"Go ahead.

Open it, and one hundred million dollars is yours."

The room erupted again.

"She's three," Richard Blake scoffed.

Elena stepped forward.

"Mr.

Carter, please…

we'll leave."

Alexander's smile vanished.

"Did I ask you to speak?

Remember your place."

Elena lowered her head.

Sofie saw it.

And something in her expression shifted.

She walked toward the vault.

Phones rose to record her.

Alexander crouched beside her.

"Do you know what one hundred million dollars means?"

Sofie thought carefully.

"It's more money than Mommy and I will ever have."

The men laughed.

But Sofie wasn't listening anymore.

Her eyes moved across the keypad.

The hinges.

The handle.

Then the faint scratches around the locking mechanism.

She pressed one tiny palm against the freezing steel.

Slowly, the laughter died.

"You're right," she whispered.

"This vault can't be opened the way everyone has been trying."

Alexander stopped smiling.

Sofie crouched beside the bottom corner.

Her finger traced what looked like solid titanium.

Then stopped.

There was a seam.

Almost invisible.

Alexander's face changed instantly.

"Wait."

Too late.

Sofie slipped one tiny finger toward it.

"Sofie, DON'T TOUCH THAT!"

Click.

A faint metallic sound echoed through the room.

Alexander froze.

His face went pale.

Because suddenly, the most dangerous man in the penthouse understood exactly what the cleaning lady's three-year-old daughter had just discovered inside the vault he believed no one could ever open.
